I took a chance......I learned my lesson

I just purchased Vocaloid Leon, and I must say that the software is a lesson in regret.

Leon has the most obnoxious vocal qualities that I have ever heard. He sounds like a dork with a bad cold. I have tweaked every parameter that is possible in order to get a voice that actually sounds like a normal male tenor. I purchased this software with the hope that it would adequately emulate some semblance of a rock style singer. I had no unrealistic expectations that the synthesis would sound like a real person……just kind of like a real person. However, it looks like this product was made solely for nice, gentle, lilting jingles.

As for the user interface, I find it quite lacking compared to other sequencer/ synthesizer software packages. It is clumsy and limited.

I really don’t see how this is going to add vocal capabilities to my (rock) music tracks. They should have called this package Vocaloid Barry Manilow or Vocaloid She-Male.

On the bright side, I do think that the synthesis is certainly an amazing thing if you are into the latest digital curiosities. Vocaloid can, indeed, produce vocals……too bad it can only produce vocals for the next generation of listeners who are really into musicals rather than current styles of popular music.

Of course, maybe I’m wrong. But there is no way of ascertaining this because I haven’t seen one example of a piece where this software has produced a rock vocal emulation.

Oh well…..$189.00 lost at the craps table.

I feel so sorry for all the people who bought this software. I feel even more sorry for people who can’t admit (because of their pride) that they’ve been SHAFTED beyond their wildest dreams… Live and learn… :(
