JMT: The basic set of melismas is growing

Hello YV community!

Now we have all Zero-G singers, and Lola and Miriam demos will be presented soon. However, our initial test of both these voices proved that that they have little timbre differences from LEON, almost non-distinctive in high range. It appears that the synthesis technology itself leads to evening out the shades, regrettably so! For now, check out our new example Red Hair Girl (LEON) where we used expanded set of melismas. As always, no manual editing at all! See details at http://www.ntonyx.com/vocaloid…..8-2004.htm

Hi Alexei

Just listened to Red girl. It does not sound so natural, but it is a very cool modern sounding effect. :)

Glad to hear that you are finishing the YV enhancer now.

Just a small question, will it be possible for the user to easily tweak the
YV enhancer parameters for a “style”? Or perhaps even copy settings parts between different “styles”. Like eg the resonance, dynamics settings etc.

Also, is it possible to develop a filter VST plugin that can be triggered by midi from the YV enhancer, that could be run on a vocaloid track in the sequencer program. What I mostly missing with the vocaloid is a way to control how it “opens it’s mouth”. :)

Now it sounds a bit “shut inside itself”. I think the song teacher would say to vocaloid “christ, open your mouth!!” if it was to take singing lessons.

Hello Bob!

YV Enhancer will have several parameters to tweak. We plan to simplify the procedure of adjusting sounding using “by phrase” modeling. So every phrase will have its own Modeler (Style). If we can limit Pitch changes as a simple gliding, we can have it finished soon. However, real pop/country/soul singing is impossible without melismas, and creation of “base of melismas” and right algorithms of their applying takes a huge amount of time. :(

We certainly will create the VST version when YV Enhancer gets released. However, we have to find some way to process data by portions (maybe by phrases), so that Vocaloid has a time to render it.

For now I don’t have necessary freedom to test Vocaloid more deeper. And I can not talk about possibilities of Voclaoid, as a well as about PM applying in details. BTW, I am sure, that Yamaha’s and Zero-G guys don’t know for sure themselves what Vocaloid can produce :)
