Hi guys :D (generic term – any girls here or are they all virtual these days?). I’ve just downloaded a Lola demo onto the User’s Area which should be available soon. Hope you like it! I read with interest about the eBay auction sighting of Vocaloid and wonder about the transfer of licence issue. Incidentally, I can tell you that I know of at least one mate who’s got a pirate version of Lola from the Net (and the update!). Apparently they’ve got round the network card protection, etc. It kind of rankles to pay hardearned for software these days when it seems anyone can get whatever they want for free. Whoops, I don’t want to start an “anti-piracy” debate! Skimming through the User Guide booklet I noticed a section on restrictions on the use of Vocaloid which strike me as being a bit rough i.e the “moral rights” of an un-named singer (Lola’s voice). But the section on use of an animated character which appears to be singing or performing is the one that I really worry about. It would appear that you cannot make a video featuring a “virtual performer” of your song? Is this so? I realise that they don’t want to bring any disrepute to Yamaha or the mystery singer, but perhaps they should “licence the visual rights” or something? There’s such a close link these days with pop music and visuals I think.

I came across a reference to a Vietnamese animated character, described as a virtual singer, having nothing to do with Vocaloid. I’m not quite sure what it’s all about (can’t read Vietnamese!). But I gather that it’s some sort of anime thing, maybe synchronized to audio in some way.
