Haaa I even got the title right. I looked over your file of this song. You made pretty good use of dynamics. Several reasons the vocal isn’t understandable in places. 1- no gender factor set on harmony 2. didn’t checl the other harmonys. 64 is default and it is too low for the range your melody is in. 2- clearness set too low on track 1. You may have been trying for a raspier sound, but I have found that low clearness affects pronunciation a lot. I normally just use the default 64 here, in fact I normally use default everything except gender unless I’m looking for a special sound or effect. 3- you can cjange consonant lengths on words hard to understand by double clicking the note, then click setup twice. Thats a trick I learned from Andromeda. d,t,s,m,b lots of consonants sometimes need longer lengths than the 64 default to properly sound. I usually us around 90 for a first attempt and go from there. Occasionally you will lose the whole word but if that happens just lower the length down a bit. Hope this helped you a little. Really nice song you have there with some unusual vocal harmonies. ! other thing, break your melodies into smaller parts. I know it’s a pain, but actually saves immense ammounts of time in the long run. Its especially important to have a small track 1 and all jarmonies that start in that place in the songbecause thats the track you find the best parameters with. I’m enjoying your music!!

:D

Thanks for the low down on what I am not doing. Very grateful.

I find that once you get a toon in your mind and start playing with it, it is fun an exiting to start with. after listening to your effort for the millionth time to hear if you have everything right. things get a little fuzzy, and you forget where or what you done to a particular phrase or instance. It is very frustrating. When I got back to this particular song. after reading your comments, it kinda made sense as to what I was doing wrong.

Glad you are enjoying what I do. You are not doing so bad yourself though. You seem to be the only one contributing at the moment. It would be nice to see another Andromeda song or an Archie rendition. So how about it, You guys.

As much as I like the discussions and debates, as I spend alot of time reading them in the hope of learning something new, most of the time. nagging questions in my mind have already been answered, approved or disapproved from within this forum.

There are many a good toons to be created. I am sure by all. so let’s get creative with what we have. 8)

Robert

I agree with the bit about listening to the same bit a million times. Unfortunately I can get get very picky with my own work and if it doesn’t sound right will just delete it and start again. Makes for slow progress. You are right, Rob. You get too close to a piece and can’t see it for what it is. I find by the time I’ve finished something I’m sick of it and don’t think it’s interesting because I know every single note in it and know what’s coming next. It was interesting to play some old tapes I recorded back in the 80s. I could listen with new ears and be far more critical of what I did. Almost like someone else had written it. I don’t have anything decent I can upload at the moment. (Just a “prelude” lasting a minute or so, in a weird gothic style using a church organ, piano, and Lola singing in 3 part harmony! – odd stuff even by my standards!!!) I’ve just started on a new project and thought it might be wiser to wait to see how Miriam sounds and how the software update works, before going too far with Lola. I’m going to do a new version of the “A for Andromeda” song and cut out the sound effects, and add some other instruments to make it more of a proper song. Probably add a second verse or something.
Cheers

Nice to hear that you’re looking forward to more demos from me and Dromie. I appreciate the thought. The first thing that came to mind though was the time Suggsy from Madness was asked if he ‘did requests’ and he replied “You hum it, I’ll smash your teeth in”. But seriously, I’m in much the same frame of mind as Dromie’s been saying (i.e watching for the update/Miriam etc etc). Leaves you at a bit of a loose end. I’ve got a few tunes hanging around in various stages of completion (i.e I’m getting bored to within an inch of shitless with some of them). If I can steal a bit of loose time, I’ll certainly have another crack at the easier ones. I just hope Gray doesn’t mind us burying the odd tune in a wee corner of his personal Demo Forum now and again…..

Well, further to the “request” by Rob, I’ve uploaded the “Gothic” piece I mentioned in my message. I really don’t know why I did this……. :?
It should appear on the downloads soon when Joe gets round to finding mine under the mountain of Gray’s contributions <img class=” />

In America, geezer means Old man. And yeh, I guess I am. Remake any of the songs I’ve done, won’t bother me. Except happy birthday of course…..
