:D

What can I say? Where there is a will there is always a way. I dare say I ain’t gonna look at a cat the same way again.

Well, the idea was to make Lola sound realistic. So she sounds just like a real singer trying to sound like a cat. :? The challenge with this was to make Lola sound like two [u:qdpcyb18]different [/u:qdpcyb18]singers. I panned one left and one right using the Vocaloid Mixer when saving the Wave file. Lola on the right was kept with mostly default parameters, but with EQ to produce a softer sound. Lola on the left was changed to make her sound younger and even more cat-like. I reduced the gender factor as the main way to do this. The phonemes for the miaows were not as easy as I thought. I tried m I and m i: for the first syllable and aU or j aU for the second. The choice depended a lot on the pitch and speed of the notes. Also with the singing of many notes on one syllable, there was always the problem of whether it was Mi————-aw or Mia———–w. Musically, it makes quite a difference and Lola is very unpredictable when doing this. Anyway, I was happy with the result. It meant I could get away with some weird sounding notes under the guise of feline realism! The original is by Rossini, but I changed a few notes here and there and sequenced the backing with tongue firmly in cheek.

Olay! Woof! You made the bi*ch miow! My cat was just staring at the speakers – no foolin’! I knew Leon would never make her purr. Enjoyed the track thoroughly – must be one of the clearest and cleanest renditions posted to date – but we must discuss the subject matter?!? You’re not still stealing other folks’ medication, are you? I remember (during the war) when you first joined this forum you seemed such a sensible boy with a bright future ahead. Look what happened to that poor Lloyd-Webber kid we used to have on the forum. I’ve gotta blame that dreadful Pow_Backslash character, he’s a bad influence and always implicated in inexplicable “incidents” you know. Altzeimer’s? Sorry, even young Ronnie (93, RIP) was making more sense than Pow – he’s as mad as a fish and you’ll only make yourself ill if you carry on down this route. Olay, my skinny ass…..

I don’t honestly know why the sound is clearer! OK, I own up – I do process the Vocaloid output through a Behringer Virtualiser Pro effects unit. But only for slight compression. I think I’ve just improved the transfer to MP3. MP3 was new to me when I started. (When I started it was 78rpm vinyl) Hey Archie – do you remember the old wax cylinders?

Hi A

Finally some outstanding cat music. :)

Loved this one, promise not to eat you, the next months. ;)

Even though you look rather tempting.

I taught I taw a puddy tat, a-cweeping up on me…… I did! I did!

Wax cylinders? Don’t talk to me about wax cylinders! That whole thing was a rip-off! I remember when they first introduced them. I had to go out and buy the whole “Cliff Richards’ Second Comeback Collection” all over again in the new format….. sheesh, young Gray and his new-fangled gramophone upstairs playing Caruso all day! Who’ll even remember fly-by-night pop stars like that in a year or two – no real melodies and that thump, thump, thump beat’ll drive you mad. I do declare…..

The Andromeda hamster is cinnamon flavoured and rather crunchy. Don’t eat him yet though as he plays all my keyboard parts.
