I want to purchase Vocaloid 2 to use with Sonar 8. I would appreciate hearing from Sonar users about their experience with Vocaloid 2.

Thanks,

Veetz

Hi there my friend.

I am a new user myself. In fact, I am not even a user yet. I was, like you, looking for answers before I purchase the product. I think I am going ahead and buy it today. They do have a very nice discount before the end of month (February 2010 = 50%).

Anyway, I did contact ZeroG directly and this is what they responded to me in an email:

"Yes Vocaloid2 will work fine with Windows 7 in 32 and 64bit. However, Sonar is not officially supported by VOCALOID2. This is because Sonar changes the order of NRPN MIDI messages, which are essential for the Vocaloid synthesis. However you can use Vocaloid with Sonar using Rewire to connect the two in sync. You can also import the wav files which you can export from Prima into Sonar as soundfiles."

In other words, as I said before, they SHOULD work together, but we need a work around to get it work. They said we need Re-wire (which I don’t use). Judging from other comments in this same forum, I think Rewire may create additional problems and might lead to freezing Sonar. I am not sure about that. However, the option of using Vocaloid2 as a stand-alone application and exporting the end result as a .wav file seems easy to do and could be a good solution to our needs.

Well, that’s my little contribution to your question. I am also trying to discover this application in the hope that the investment will be worthy.

Hi

So far I’ve had no joy in connecting PRIMA to Sonar 8.5.3 by VSTi or Rewire. But until tonight I hadn’t read the manual so I think there are some settings I need to change to get this to work. There is a thread on the Cakewalk forum saying it should work OK but not in 64 bit as rewire does not work.

Once I’ve tried some settings I will report back.

Hi Everyone,
I can get Vocaloid 2 Realtime VST working in Cakewalk Sonar Home Studio 6 and Sonar Home Studio 7XL.

I have to set the Vocaloid Settings box to Low Audio Quality for Fast Rendering and with Sonar Home Studio 7XL, I have to leave 20 blank measures before the V2 Singer will start singing.

There is a video showing how someone got Vocaloid2 to work with Sonar, but its in Japanese and the video quality is so bad, I can not follow what the poster did.

I have not tried Rewire with Cakewalk and Vocaloid 2.

Hi Everyone
In Vocaloid 2 Realtime VST Mode, you should see the Sliders Interface that is pictured in the V2 Help File.

Then you click on settings, set that up, then singer, set that up, then click on lyrics and enter something like La, La, La just to test V2 with.

Your track name should say Vocaloid 2. Select that.

Then enter a few long notes in your software’s piano roll window.

You may need a few blank bars before your notes for the Vocaloid to load and pre send the Vocaloid information.

You can find You Tube Videos showing Vocaloid Rewire with Florida Studio. That way you can see what steps to take and just apply the steps to your music software.

Hi Timothy

The Frooty Loops YOUTube clip was very helpful and I mangaed to simulate excatly the same in Sonar. I gor the diaglog box asking to send dat to rewire device just as the video stated I then pressed my transport in Sonar and it played the notes I put into Vocaloid. Great… but how does the Vocaloid content actually get onto the Sonar track?

Thanks

Martin

Hi All, Martin
Vocaloid 2 is your software synth, just like picking a GM Synth or a Software Grand Piano.

When I have time, I want to try Rewire and Vocaloid 2 and Sonar X1 Essentials.
