Vocaloid behavior as VST

I am considering getting Vocaloid. I know little about it. I have gone through a few tutorials and I understand those. However, I am confused as to how you use Vocaloid as VST in a host. The tutorials show that vocaloid is a sequencer in itself. Then how does it work under another sequencer – do you sync them up? From what I am reading here, this may be a problem. Seems a lot of people are creating audio tracks and importing them.

I used to have an outboard JV-1080. It had great female "doohs" that you could drive with a midi track. Am I going to be able to recreate that with Vocaloid

I am new to vocaloid and have vocaloid Miriam and vocaloid 2 Prima. I find that Miriam works as a stand alone and I use it to make wav files I import into cubase. As a VST it does nothing but allow some adjustments to the voice itself not to the notes or lyrics. Basically nothing worth using a vst. I cannot get it to connect in rewire at all, in fact it will make Miriam stop woring if I try and I have to reinstall it.

Prima – vocaloid 2 on the other hand does a lot in a vst format.
